10-Week Protest at Roscrea Hotel Housing Asylum Seekers Comes to an End

After 10 weeks, the prolonged protest at Racket Hall Hotel in Roscrea, Co. Tipperary, housing asylum seekers has concluded. Initiated in January over concerns about the repurposing of 40 rooms for asylum seekers, the protest led to tensions between demonstrators and authorities.

Fine Gael councillor Noel Coonan noted local relief at the protest’s end but highlighted the need for better consultation between locals and the Department of Integration. The closure of the hotel and the protest’s aftermath remain disappointing for the town, despite efforts by residents to accommodate asylum seekers.
