3,394 cases in Ireland; Cases doubled in last 24 hours

The number of Covid cases in Ireland is soaring during the third wave of the Covid pandemic.

During January 1 and 2, 3,394 cases were reported in Ireland, with 4 deaths. Of Yesterday’s Covid cases, 389 are in Cork, 355 in Dublin, 339 in Donegal, 258 in Lot, 233 in Mayo, and 1,820 in the remaining counties.

The Department of Health confirms that the current growth rate of the virus is increasing by 10% to 11% each day, but health officials have warned that there may be as many as 9000 unreported cases in Ireland.

Authorities warn that Ireland is heading for a “very worrying situation” with an increase in case numbers and hospital admissions in the coming days.

Currently, 581 patients with Kovid-19 are being treated at the hospital and 56 in the ICU. In the last 24 hours, 73 people have been admitted to the hospital.

Dr. Philip Nolan, Chair of the Irish Epidemiological Modeling Advisory Group, said that Ireland is now in a state of flux due to the influx of Covid-19 patients.

Due to the increasing number of Covid tests, it is now needed to wait 24 to 72 hours for test results. He clarified that arrangements are being made to get the test result soon by next week.
