9th International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21

Days before the 9th International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21, Ayush minister Sarbananda Sonowal spoke about the significance of the day, how India has popularised yoga globally, actions taken by the government to prevent self-proclaimed yoga gurus from opening shops in the country, and the government’s emphasis on mainstreaming traditional therapies by establishing integrated medicine centres in prominent hospitals.

The first endeavour this year will be to establish the ocean ring, which will involve all five oceans. The defence, external affairs, port, shipping, and waterways ministries will collaborate, and a standard yoga procedure will be shown aboard on ships wherever they are stationed.

The second step will be to go from the Arctic to Antarctica to activate the research centres, Himadri and Bharati. They will also include ten neighbouring nations. On a nationwide scale, they will establish 50,000 amrit sarovars where yoga will be practised; it will also be practised in 1.5 lakh health and wellness facilities and 2 lakh common service centres, among other locations. Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, will host the main event.
