Wrestler Ravi Kumar earns India’s 2nd silver medal and fifth overall

TOKYO: Wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya won silver for India after losing in the final of the men’s 57kg freestyle category against Russian two-time defending world champion Zavur Uguev on Thursday. The 23-year-old bagged India’s second silver and fifth medal overall at the Tokyo Olympics.

Ravi Kumar is the fifth Indian wrestler to earn an Olympic medal, and only the second Indian wrestler to win a silver medal after Sushil Kumar, who won at the 2012 London Olympics.

Ravi fell behind 0-2 in the opening round before rallying to level the score, but Uguev claimed the round 4-2. The Russian fighter then raced to a 7-2 lead before Ravi fought back with two more points to make the score 7-4.

However, Ravi was unable to add further three points to his tally in the end and lost the bout after giving Uguev a tough fight.
