Dublin: The Irish government is asking the public for assistance in preparing new refugee housing. When thousands of homeless people and foreign students are without shelter, the government comes up with a new proposal. The public is concerned that refugees will take over all of the country’s social, arts, and sports centres as a result of this.
Integration Minister Roderic O’Gorman has written to various departments and county councils requesting that thousands of refugees arriving in Ireland be housed in community buildings.
He suggested that buildings be prepared in any part of the country for this purpose, as well as other facilities such as sleeping and bathing. The minister’s list includes community centres, conference centres, student hostels, and indoor sports facilities throughout the country. Once the buildings have been handed over, other departments can be enlisted to help with the refugees’ affairs.
The growing number of refugees—are they all refugees?
According to government estimates, up to 180,000 refugees could arrive in Ireland by the end of 2023. When people are preparing to welcome people from Ukraine with open arms, the push of a community coming to Ireland under the guise of refugees through countries such as Turkey goes unnoticed by authorities. It is said that special groups are working in different parts of the country to receive such people, provide facilities, including food in the first instance, and arrange social security facilities. Shops and institutions are being rented in some cities, and these people are venturing into areas such as trade.
It is an open secret that after arriving in Ireland as refugees, some people are preparing a centralised facility to admit them to essential services such as taxi services and the security sector.
It is also worth noting that those who seek asylum in Ireland without the government’s attention support those who later lead anti-government movements and protests.
