A handful of records await Rahane in Sydney

SYDNEY: India captain Ajinkya Rahane has a few records ahead of him as the third Test of the series against Australia kicks off at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday.

If he wins in Sydney, Rahane could become the second captain to lead India to victory in the first four Tests.

The record is currently held by MS Dhoni, who led India to victory in four consecutive Tests after taking over the captaincy from Anil Kumble in 2008.

Rahane is a 100 per cent successful captain for India. Rahane led India to victory in the first three matches against Australia in 2017, Afghanistan in 2018 and Australia in 2020.

With this, Rahane will be able to complete 1000 runs on Australian soil if he scores another 203 runs. Rahane currently has 797 runs from 10 matches.

Sachin Tendulkar tops the list with 1809 runs from 20 matches. Virat Kohli with 1352 runs from 13 matches, VVS Laxman with 1236 runs from 15 matches and Rahul Dravid with 1143 runs from 14 matches are the other players in the list.

Rahane, meanwhile, has 3,000 Test runs abroad. Rahane has scored 2891 runs in 40 matches outside India at an average of 45.88.

Tendulkar tops the list with 8705 runs from 106 matches. Rahul Dravid is second with 7667 runs from 93 matches.
