A massive Garda operation in the Galway-Mayo area led to the arrest of 7 people

A massive Garda operation in the Galway-Mayo area that lasted until the early hours of Wednesday morning (last week) resulted in the arrest of seven people suspected of criminal gang activities.

Up to 85 Garda officers were engaged in the morning raids on residences in Galway and Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo, with the seven men being questioned at several Garda stations in Mayo throughout the week.

A number of Garda units were involved in the operation, which entailed the search for residences in Galway’s Ballybane and Bohermore neighbourhoods, as well as in Ballinrobe.

Armed Support, Air Support, and Garda Dog Units, as well as an impressive team of detectives and rank-and-file Gardai from two western divisions—Galway and Mayo/Roscommon/Longford—were involved in the searches and arrests.

Two of the arrested males were in their forties, four were in their twenties, and the third was a teenager; all may be detained for up to twelve hours and questioned under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
