DUBLIN: Taoiseach Micheál Martin has warned that Ireland is “on the precipice of a no-deal”. Michael Martin had released a clear update on the Brexit talks.
The transition period ends on December 31. Prior to that, there are growing concerns that negotiating teams from the European Union and the UK would not be able to reach a post-Brexit trade agreement.
The UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said that a good deal will be struck, but he has made it clear that Britain will not accept the terms of the EU.
Mr. Martin told the Dail on Wednesday that Brexit was a “wrong move” on the part of British public and political class.
“Now at the moment we are on the precipice of a no-deal. But it’s on a knife edge. It is 50-50. There are difficult issues regarding level playing fields and our own fisheries,” Taoiseach said.
Although a Brexit contingency plan has been drawn up, Ireland is moving in the belief that there may be at least one trade deal or grace period. However, Taoiseach Micheál Martin, warned of danger when the chances for a trade deal are slim.
