About 500 new job opportunities at the University Hospital Limerick

DUBLIN: Construction of a new block with sixty beds at the University Hospital Limerick has been completed to strengthen the health sector during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The hospital has about 500 job vacancies for the staff needed for the new block. It also offers permanent contracts for nurses and midwives graduating from the University of Limerick.

The new block was completed in three wards with an investment of €21 million. Each ward has 20 en-suite single rooms. The health department has decided to open the three wards on November 23, December 14 and January 4, respectively.

Fully isolation facilities have been set up in the two wards as part of the hospital’s virus infection control.

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly said the extra beds would provide better care for patients and help to prevent and control infections.

He added that additional facilities at the hospital could help alleviate the long-running hospital bed shortage in the Midwest.
