Actor Akshay Kumar, who has endured criticism for his Canadian citizenship, has been given Indian citizenship on the country’s 77th Independence Day.
“Dono Hindustani, dil aur citizenship.” Happy Independence Day! Jai Hind!” Akshay Kumar said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Akshay Kumar has stated that he felt disappointed when people questioned his “love for the country”.
He filed for Indian citizenship in 2019, but the procedure was halted owing to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Akshay Kumar’s Canadian citizenship became a topic of debate after an interview with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“I never thought I’d have to change my passport, but now I’ve applied to have it changed, and once I get the renounced status from Canada…” he added.
