Aim of the new lockdown is to flatten the curve- Leo Varadkar

‘Ireland is the first country in Europe to recall national lockdown,’ this was said by Tanaiste Leo Varadkar.

He believes that the latest national lockdown will be a preemptive strike and the nation is trying to act before it’s too late.

Varadkar says that the goal of the lockdown is to flatten the curve of covid virus. He also added that no government officials were fully convinced and happy about the new lockdown.

“Lockdown saves lives but it comes at the human cost,” he said.

He said that they want to make sure that the second wave is only a ripple and also wanted to control and limit the virus.

According too him, the six week lockdown might cost the state €1.5 billion.

Taoiseach Micheal Martin last day revealed about the six week national lockdown, which will come into effect by Wednesday. Right after the announcement, there were comments from the Fine Gael leaders.

The Fianna Fail leaders said that the country should adapt the same system until proper vaccine is released.

Mr. Martin on the other hand said that the aim of the lockdown is to reduce the covid spread and to bring down the restrictions back to Level 3.

He said that they will have to continue to adjust with Covid for the entire 2021 also. “I think we’re going to have Covid with us for the entire of 2021.”

“It won’t be the same Christmas that we have enjoyed in years past, but if we all pull together and follow the spirit of these new rules, it will be a very special time and will give us all some respite from the hardship of the last seven months.” He said.

“If each of us does what is asked of us for a period of just six weeks, we will suppress this virus and we will emerge from these restrictions on December 1.” Taoiseach added.
