Dublin: Indian speciality pharmaceutical manufacturer Ajanta Pharma is reportedly preparing to launch production operations in Ireland, marking a significant expansion into the European market. A company spokesperson declined to comment on the plans.
Ajanta Pharma, a publicly listed company employing more than 11,000 people, currently operates seven manufacturing facilities in India, including six formulation plants and one active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) unit. Its research and development centre in Mumbai employs 1,000 personnel.
The company recorded revenue of €448 million in the last financial year, representing 10 per cent year-on-year growth, and generated free cash flow of €67 million. The branded generics division contributed 74 per cent of total revenue, an increase from 71 per cent in the previous year.
Its U.S. generics business accounted for 23 per cent of total revenue, rising 9 per cent annually. Ajanta expects sustained strong growth in the U.S. market this fiscal year.
The company manufactures and markets more than 550 products across over 30 countries, with strategic focus on India, emerging markets, and Africa.
Ajanta operates across a broad range of therapeutic segments, including cardiology, diabetes care, ophthalmology, dermatology, antibiotics, anti-malarials, respiratory medicine, pain management, gynaecology, paediatrics and general wellness.
In its second-quarter results published last November, Ajanta reported 14 per cent growth in revenue and a 20 per cent rise in post-tax profit.
