DUBLIN: All adults in Ireland can register for an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine via the HSE online portal from today. Anyone 18 years of age or older can register for the Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna jab from July 21, Health Minister Stephen Donnelly said Tuesday evening.
People registering for vaccines on the HSE website will require their PPS number, Eircode, mobile phone number, and email address. Those who do not have all of these documents and do not prefer to register online can call HSELive at 1850 241 850.
The vaccine portal was recently opened for 18-24 year olds to register to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine.
The HSE explained that those who registered for an AstraZeneca vaccine would continue to receive the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine if available. However, if an AstraZeneca vaccine becomes available before an mRNA shot, they will be provided it.
These people can also choose Johnson & Johnson, as pharmacies across the country are administering the one-dose Janssen vaccine for the 18-34 age cohort.
At the same time, the HSE said that those who choose the AstraZeneca and Johnson vaccines may be vaccinated earlier. It also recommended Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna vaccines for people under the age of 50, owing to the very rare risk of unusual blood clots with low platelets in people under the age of 50 who received the AstraZeneca or Janssen vaccines.
According to the latest vaccination figures, over 5.2 million doses have been administered in Ireland. As of Monday, July 19, over 2.9 million people in the country have received at least one dose, with over 2.3 million receiving a second dose.
