DUBLIN — If the renewal of the Irish Residency Permit (IRP Card) is delayed, the applicant will be allowed to stay in the country for up to eight weeks, as per the Department of Immigration. If the card expires and a valid registration card is not obtained, the visitor is only permitted to stay in the country for a maximum of eight weeks.
This benefit is available to those who show proof of applying for registration renewal before the current card expires. Applicants in the Dublin area who apply for renewal online will receive a receipt containing the Uniform Application Number (OREG Number). If the application is accepted, the applicant will be notified via email. This email confirmation can be used as proof that the applicant is waiting for a new card. If the current permit expires before applying for renewal, the notice also states that the applicant is not legally allowed to stay or work in the country.
There is a huge rush for IRP card renewals. More than six weeks are needed now. According to the Emigration Services Registration Office in Dublin’s Burgh Quay, it may take up to two weeks to receive a new card after renewing your registration, which is why this exemption is granted.
The department reminded applicants to renew their registration within the card’s validity period. Sufficient time should be allowed to complete the procedures before the card expires.
