An Indian priest was stabbed in Waterford. The assailant was arrested

Waterford: Gardaí have launched an investigation into an assault on an Indian chaplain at Waterford General Hospital.

Fr. Bobbitt Thomas, an Indian priest, was assaulted this morning in Waterford City. While attempting to stop the attack, the priest was stabbed. The seriously injured Fr. Bobbitt is being treated at University Hospital Waterford.

An assailant stabbed the priest at his home in the Ardkeen area of Waterford at around 9.30 a.m.(yesterday). Two other priests who live in the same house were not present when the incident occurred.

Alphonsus Cullinan, Bishop of Waterford and Lismore, expressed shock at the incident. He said he is praying for Fr. Bobbitt’s speedy recovery.

According to Garda sources, a 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with this morning’s incident and is being held in custody at Waterford Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act while investigations continue.
