Dublin: The Met Office has issued a warning for an exceptionally cold spell set to hit Ireland starting Sunday evening, bringing Arctic air that may blanket parts of the country in snow. Forecasters predict a marked drop in temperatures from Monday, November 18, through Sunday, November 24, as low-pressure conditions prevail, with lows potentially reaching -6°C in some areas.
The Met Office reports that the first snowfall is expected in the northwest on Monday, gradually spreading nationwide throughout the week. Heavy snow accumulation is forecast in highland areas across Ulster and Connacht, including counties Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon, and Sligo. Forecaster Matthew Martin cautioned that icy conditions are likely to persist overnight, especially in northern and western regions, where snow is expected to cover hills and higher elevations.
In Dublin and the south, the forecast suggests drier conditions with clouds. However, widespread fog and mist, compounded by light winds, will reduce visibility for motorists, with foggy conditions expected through Friday. Rain will move southeastward by Friday night, followed by cloudy skies with occasional showers on Saturday morning and afternoon.
Today and Thursday will see temperatures between 8–10°C, with cloudy conditions and widespread rain showers expected.
