Asylum seekers experiencing health issues, distress due to inadequate toilet facilities

The Government’s International Protection Office in Dublin has become a makeshift campsite for asylum seekers, lacking proper facilities and safety measures. Over 100 tents now house around 1,200 people, including families with infants. The dire conditions include a shortage of toilets, leading to health hazards and distress among residents.

Instances of attacks on the tents have been reported, exacerbating the sense of insecurity. Volunteers highlight the spread of infections due to the lack of hygiene facilities, with some residents resorting to self-medication. Businesses in the area, like Ruth’s restaurant, are suffering due to the decline in customers.

Concerns from public representatives like Labour TD Aodhán Ó Ríordáin emphasise the urgent need for action. The situation underscores systemic failures in providing adequate support for asylum seekers, endangering their well-being and dignity.
