The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Monday that it will donate 2000 10-litre oxygen concentrators to help India fight the coronavirus pandemic.
India, which is currently battling the second wave of COVID-19, is in high demand for oxygen cylinders and other medical equipment. More than two lakh cases and 4000 deaths are reported every day in India.
The BCCI stated that it will distribute oxygen concentrators across India in the next few months in order to provide critical medical treatment and care to needy patients.
BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has said that the board recognizes the role played by the medical and healthcare community in fighting the pandemic. “They have truly been frontline warriors and have done whatever possible to shield us,” he said. The oxygen concentrators will provide immediate relief to those affected and help them recover faster,” Mr. Ganguly added.
“In times of crisis, the cricketing community has always come forward to lend support. It is heartening to see everyone coming together and doing their bit. The BCCI remains steadfast in its efforts towards social responsibility and will always be working closely with central and state governments to help them in their efforts to curb the spread of the virus. We believe these oxygen concentrators will boost healthcare infrastructure and be vital in providing critical oxygen when levels deplete rapidly,” BCCI treasurer Arun Singh Dhumal said.
Meanwhile, Indian cricket all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya are also dispatching oxygen concentrators to various COVID centres.
