Biden’s ascension; FBI warns of possible armed protests

Washington: The FBI has warned of possible protests in the country as US President – elect Joe Biden takes over the charge.

Biden will be the new president of the United States on January 20. The FBI has warned that armed protests could erupt in Washington D.C. and in all other state capitals.

The news agency Reuters reported that FBI has warned of possible armed protests in state capitals from January 16 to 20.

Meanwhile, the FBI has warned that violence in Washington, D.C., is likely to continue from January 17 until January 20, the accession day. A state of emergency has been declared in Washington D.C, in the wake of the accession ceremony.

The National Guard has decided to send 15,000 troops to Washington following threats of further violence from supporters of current President Donald Trump. The Washington Memorial has been closed to tourists until January 24.

General Daniel Hawkenson, head of the National Guard bureau, told the media that 10,000 troops are expected to arrive in Washington, D.C., by Saturday. They will focus on security and communication. He added that the number of troops could rise to 15,000 if requested by local authorities.
