Boxing Day Test; India levels the series 1-1

Melbourne: Memories of the defeat in the Adelaide Test erased the Indian success story in Melbourne. India beat Australia by eight wickets in the second Test to level the series (1-1).

India chased down Australia’s 70-run target in the 15.5 over of the second innings by losing just two wickets.

Mayank Agarwal (5) and Cheteshwar Pujara (3) went early. Shubhman Gill (35 off 36 balls) and skipper Ajinkya Rahane (27 off 40 balls) remained unbeaten.

Earlier in the day, the Indian bowlers allowed Australia to add 67 runs for the loss of six wickets. Australia were all out for 200 in 103.1 overs in the second innings, with only a 69-run lead.

Jaspreet Bumrah gave Australia their first blow of the day by knocking down Pat Cummins on the fourth day. Cummins returned with 22 runs off 103 balls.

Green and Cummins put on 57 for the seventh wicket to take Australia past 150. It was also the highest partnership in the Australian innings. Nathan Lyon (3) and Josh Hazlewood (10) are the other wickets. Mitchell Starc remained unbeaten on 14.
