Campaign launched in demand that those with nursing qualifications and work experience be given the opportunity in Ireland

DUBLIN: Hundreds of foreign-trained nurses who have arrived in Ireland on Dependent Visas or Student Visas from countries including India have launched a new campaign demanding that they be given the opportunity to register with the NMBI on the basis of their background knowledge and experience, irrespective of their language skills.

Due to lack of registration, most of them are working as care assistants in the health sector and others in non-medical fields. The rule that nursing registration in Ireland is only possible if they have a high score on IELTS/OET exams is disrupted for them. Most of them failed to qualify on the basis of small points.

During the period 2017-2018, about 400 people living in Ireland received NMBI registration regardless of their English language proficiency.

The campaign raises the need to use their services during this epidemic, both as a registered nurse and in the context of work experience, as they arrive and live in Ireland due to family circumstances. Through the campaign, they are urging the NMBI and the Irish Government to give nurses in Ireland an opportunity to help and support our health system in the current crisis of acute shortage.

Hundreds of people, including many Keralites in Ireland, would benefit from such a petition being effective.
