Can expect a plan to help mortgage holders in the budget; Prime Minister

Mayo: Leo Varadkar stated that the government is also considering plans to assist mortgage holders who are struggling as a result of interest rate hikes.
The Prime Minister told the media in Mayo that the government had not ruled out doing something to help struggling mortgage holders, but he did not want to get their hopes up.

The government is preparing a budget package that will include a massive plan to assist those struggling to afford the cost of living, but it will not include mortgage interest relief, according to the Prime Minister.

Varadkar stated that the new scheme would be aimed at people in financial difficulty, those struggling to pay their mortgages, and those at risk of losing their homes. Varadkar said that whatever is done will be aimed at those who need it most.

Figures from the central bank showed that the average interest rate on new mortgages rose to 4.04% in June from 3.84% in May.
