Cork: Canadian technology company OpenText has announced a major €105 million investment in Ireland, which will create 400 new jobs in Cork and Galway over the next three years.
The company, which specialises in data management and cybersecurity solutions, said the expansion will significantly strengthen its presence in Ireland and support its growth across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
The announcement coincided with the visit of Mark Carney to Ireland this weekend.
Expansion in AI, Cybersecurity and Cloud Technologies
OpenText currently employs 275 people across its operations in Cork and Galway, with the majority of staff based in Cork.
The company said the new investment will effectively double its footprint in Ireland and expand capabilities in:
- Agentic AI technologies
- Cybersecurity solutions
- Sovereign cloud infrastructure
- Digital operations and services
These investments are intended to enhance OpenText’s research, development and operational capabilities for customers across the EMEA region.
Government Welcomes Investment
Micheál Martin welcomed the announcement, describing it as a strong endorsement of the growing economic ties between Ireland and Canada.
“This investment reflects the strength of the long-standing relationship between our two countries and will create innovation, trade and high-value jobs,” Martin said.
IDA Ireland described the project as the largest single investment in Ireland by a Canadian-based technology company, calling it a significant milestone in Ireland-Canada economic cooperation.
Michael Lohan, CEO of IDA Ireland, said the investment would further strengthen Ireland’s position as a global hub for artificial intelligence and transformative technologies.
Focus on Trusted AI and Cloud Services
Shannon Bell said the investment would expand the company’s EMEA research and development capabilities and provide customers with trusted AI, cybersecurity and cloud services.
She added that the move would enhance regional collaboration and provide greater flexibility for European organisations operating in cloud environments.
Manna Announces Hundreds of Additional Jobs
Meanwhile, Irish drone delivery company Manna has announced plans to create 400 new jobs globally over the next two years, with approximately 300 positions expected to be based in Ireland.
The new roles will span areas including:
- Robotics
- Software engineering
- Aviation operations
The announcements from OpenText and Manna represent another boost for Ireland’s technology sector, reinforcing the country’s position as a growing centre for innovation, artificial intelligence and advanced digital services.
