Dublin: Caredoc workers across the southeast continued a 24-hour strike on Thursday evening in a dispute over pay, with unions demanding the implementation of an agreed 8 per cent wage increase dating back to 2023.
Around 270 staff, represented by SIPTU and the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO), are taking part in the action in Carlow, Waterford, Wexford, Kilkenny and Tipperary, affecting several hospitals and primary care centres.
The unions say efforts to resolve the issue failed due to a lack of meaningful engagement from Caredoc. SIPTU has warned that some staff providing GP out-of-hours services are earning close to the minimum wage despite working unsociable hours.
Caredoc said the dispute stems from insufficient funding from the HSE, claiming a €647,000 allocation would not cover the agreed increase and was returned. SIPTU maintains responsibility lies with the employer to honour the pay deal.
