Check out: The Irish government offers hundreds of openings for Indian teachers in Ireland

Dublin: To address Ireland’s teacher shortage, the Irish government has created opportunities for qualified teachers from other countries, including India.

There are approximately 1,000 teacher vacancies in Ireland, according to the Department of Education. Teachers who have qualified outside of Ireland are now permitted to apply for registration with the Teaching Council of Ireland and then complete their induction course in Ireland, according to the new policy.

Primary and second-level teachers registered in Ireland are hereby appointed to fill vacancies, including supervisory and substitution roles, in accordance with the Teaching Council’s process.

The shortage of teachers in Ireland is caused by factors such as the high cost of living in urban areas and the migration of qualified teachers from Ireland.

When is the last day to register?
The Teaching Council has stated that the new registration process for overseas-qualified teachers will only be in place until February 2024. In Ireland, there are currently over 118,000 registered primary, post-primary, further education, and student teachers. Currently, up to 5,500 applicants from within the country apply for initial registration each year, but the number of registered teachers increases by only 3,600 per year when retirements, emigrations, and leavers are taken into account.

A few teachers who register in Ireland are required to study the Irish language and history. However, newly registered teachers will be given a specific appointment time.
In Ireland, the average teacher salary is €36,075 per year, or €18.50 per hour (about Rs.1600 per hour). Entry-level salaries start at €29,625 per year, with most experienced teachers earning up to €48,881 per year.

How to apply?
Applications for registration with the Teaching Council of Ireland must be submitted online. All application documentation must be submitted in electronic format at all stages. All required documentation and a registration fee of €90 can be uploaded to the council, and the online application form can be completed.
You have up to three months to save and finish your application. Within that time, the applicant can revise and update the draft as needed. Allow three months from the date of application processing to complete the application. All applications that have not been completed and submitted within three months will be cancelled.

When you submit your application, you will receive a confirmation email. If any documentation is missing, a member of staff will contact you to resolve the problem.
Applications from those qualified outside Ireland may take up to 12 weeks to process from the date of receipt of all required documentation. Registration will be completed once all other requirements, such as character references, police clearance vetting, and English language proficiency, have been met. A timed aptitude test (optional) must be completed.
