The majority of the provisions of the Courts and Civil Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2023 were effective on July 31, according to Minister for Justice Helen McEntee TD.
The Act includes broad-ranging legislative amendments that will assist enhance access to justice and make civil procedures more efficient, simplified, and people-centred.
The Act amends Irish nationality and citizenship, court offices, bankruptcy, international protection, data protection, immigration, and legal services.
The residence requirement for children born in Ireland of another nationality who wish to seek for citizenship has been reduced from five to three years.
Children born to non-Irish residents in the State have an automatic claim to Irish citizenship, since the Citizenship referendum was enacted in 2004, but only if one of the parents is an Irish citizen or is qualified to be one.
