CORK: Cork University Hospital staff urge Ireland’s health sector to actively intervene to support India’s health care efforts, as the spread of COVID-19 in the country is at an all-time high.
Staff at Cork University Hospital have requested hospitals, medical suppliers and healthcare organisation to donate any available respiratory equipment.
Professor Seamus O’Reilly, a consultant medical oncologist at CUH, said the staff express solidarity with their Indian colleagues working in Ireland. He said that without the assistance and involvement of Indian employees, Ireland’s health-care system would have collapsed in January.
Mr. O’Reilly said the CUH has a historic relationship with India since the 1985 Air India tragedy, and that there are a number of reasons for its efforts to request respiratory supplies be sent to India.
The efforts to send medical equipment will be coordinated by the Health Service Executive (HSE). O’Reilly said that any hospital or healthcare company with the equipment to donate contact HSE directly.
He also requested people to donate to the Unicef vaccination programme on the Unicef website.
