COVID-19: 11 deaths and 420 new cases confirmed yesterday

DUBLIN: The Department of health has confirmed 420 new COVID-19 cases in Ireland yesterday. The total number of confirmed cases now stands at 242,819.

The NPHET has also confirmed that 11 further deaths were reported in the country, bringing the death toll from COVID-19 to 4,831. Three of the deaths reported yesterday occurred in April, one in March, two in February, and five occurred in January or earlier.

Of the cases confirmed yesterday,

● 218 were men and 197 were women

● 74% are under 45 years of age

● The median age is 32

● 147 of the new cases are in Dublin, 41 in Meath, 33 in Donegal, 26 in Galway, 18 in Limerick and the remaining 155 cases are spread across all other counties.

As of yesterday morning, 190 COVID-19 patients were hospitalised, with 53 in ICU.  

The 14-day incidence rate in Ireland is 119 per 100,000 of the population. Offaly has the highest national incidence rate at 211.6 cases per 100,000 population, followed by Kildare and Donegal at 196.9 and 190.3 respectively. Sligo (18.3), Kilkenny (24.2) and Clare (37) have the lowest incidence rates.

As of 14 April, 1,121,003 COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered in Ireland. 789,526 people received their first dose, and 331,477 received their second dose.
