DUBLIN: The National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) reports that 631 new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed yesterday in Ireland. This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 224,588.
The health department also confirmed that 47 more people died due to COVID-19. 14 of these deaths occurred in March, 18 in February and 15 in January.
The median age of those who died was 83 years and the age range was 60 – 95 years. With this, the death toll from Coronavirus now stands at 4,499.
Of the cases notified, 317 were men and 308 were women. 74% were under 45 years of age and the median age was 29 years old.
The highest number of cases were recorded in Dublin (247). Of the remaining cases, 50 in Kildare, 44 in Meath, 41 in Cork, 32 in Limerick and the rest 217 cases are spread across 20 other counties.
As of yesterday morning, 370 COVID-19 patients were hospitalised, with 92 in ICU.
Ireland to secure additional 46,500 vaccine doses in March
In a statement the Department of Health has confirmed that 525,768 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in Ireland as of last Sunday. It also stated that 95% of the available vaccines are administered within a week of arrival in the country.
The Taoiseach Micheál Martin said yesterday that Ireland will receive an additional 46,500 doses of Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine this month.
