COVID-19: 68 deaths and 556 new cases confirmed yesterday

DUBLIN: The National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) announced yesterday that 556 new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Ireland. This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 204,940.

The NPHET confirmed yesterday that 68 more people had died from COVID-19. Of these, 50 occurred in February, 15 occurred in January and 2 in December. With this, the death toll from Coronavirus now stands at 3,752.

Of the cases confirmed yesterday, 284 were men and 268 were women. 60% of patients are under 45 years of age and the median age is 39 years old.

The highest number of cases were recorded in Dublin (163). Of the remaining cases, 45 were reported in Limerick, 38 in Galway, 34 in Cork, 29 in Waterford and the rest 247 cases were spread across all other counties.  

A total of 1,104 COVID-19 patients were hospitalised as of yesterday, with 182 in ICU.

The 14-day incidence rate in Ireland per 100,000 now stands at 319. Monaghan has the highest incidence rate at 651.6, and Roscommon has the lowest incidence rate (131.7).
