Decline in number of COVID-19 patients being treated in hospitals; one death and 408 new cases confirmed yesterday

DUBLIN: The number of COVID-19 patients being treated in hospitals is steadily decreasing. As of yesterday morning, 110 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized, with 36 in the intensive care unit.

The HSE chief executive said the current hospital figures are “encouraging” compared to the situation a few weeks ago. “We now have a proven and winning combination, the vaccination programme and public support for public health measures,” Paul Reid said on Twitter.

Meanehile, the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) has confirmed 408 new COVID-19 cases in Ireland yesterday. The total number of confirmed cases now stands at 252,303.

The NPHET also confirmed that one further death have been recorded in the country, bringing the death toll from COVID-19 to 4,919.

Of the cases confirmed yesterday,

● 205 were men and 202 were women

● 77% are under 45 years of age

● The median age is 31

As of 6 May, 1,746,912 doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been administered in Ireland. 1,267,167 people have received their first dose and 479,745 people received their second dose.
