Dublin: Deputy Prime Minister Micheál Martin has made a commitment to complete the construction of 100,000 houses in Ireland by the end of this year. Speaking at Fianna Fáil’s one-day national conference (Ard Fheis) in Dublin, Micheál Martin, who is also the party president, announced the government’s plans for rapid housing development within one year.
Fianna Fáil views addressing the housing crisis as a top priority, given the challenges posed by a growing population and increasing job opportunities. Martin emphasised that the most sustainable solution is to build more homes for both ownership and rental, and he noted that significant progress has been made in achieving this goal through measures such as expediting home permits, completing construction projects, and facilitating mortgage drawdowns.
Micheál Martin also highlighted Ireland’s commitment to international issues, including efforts to resolve conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. He called for a ceasefire in the ongoing conflicts and the release of hostages, while stressing the importance of addressing the humanitarian needs of civilians, including providing essential medical supplies.
Regarding Ukraine, Fianna Fáil expressed its continued support for Ukraine’s application for EU membership and reaffirmed Ireland’s solidarity with the people of Ukraine.
The annual Fianna Fáil conference brought together a diverse group of attendees, including party members, government ministers, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), Teachta Dála (TDs), and senators. The event took place at the Royal Dublin Convention Centre.
