Dipendra Gurung, a Nepali-origin businessman, has taken over ownership of Miss World

Kathmandu: Dipendra Gurung, a British businessman of Nepalese origin, has become a co-owner of the Miss World pageant. Gurung and the reputable beauty pageant website PageantEmpress have both confirmed this.

Gurung will officially take over as Miss World beginning with the 71st edition of Miss World this year. Miss World has been the exclusive property of British entrepreneur Julia Morley and her family since its establishment.

Dipendra also announced the news of taking over the Gurung family’s reigns from this year’s Miss World on PageantEmpress. Gurung is also the owner of the European airline Himalaya Jet and the world-renowned cinema multiplex chain Privé Luxury Cinemas.

The Miss World pageant will be conducted in Singapore, Japan, and Poland this year. Dipendra arrived in Singapore on Wednesday with the current beauty queen for this purpose. Gurung also met Singapore’s Culture Minister, Edwin Tong.

It is also reported that the 2024 Miss World pageant will be staged at the same location in Nepal and India. Dipendra stated that Miss World will be held in Nepal, although he did not provide a date.

“The Gurung family now lives on in the Miss World legacy,” stated Stephen Morley, the current executive producer of Miss World. With the 71st edition of Miss World, we wish to elevate this event to new heights. We will move the programme and charity forward as a group.
