Dublin Bus Services Resume Following Violent Attacks; Significant Disruptions in Key Areas

Dublin: Dublin bus services have recommenced this morning after a temporary suspension due to the disturbing events that unfolded in Dublin yesterday. In an official press release, Dublin Bus confirmed the resumption of all services, with specific diversions in place.

Routes to Parnell Street, Parnell Square, and O’Connell Street will remain unavailable, rerouted through Gardiner Street and Church Street. Meanwhile, Luas services are operating only on the Red Line between Tallaght and Smithfield during the morning, with services between Smithfield and Connolly/The Point suspended. The Green Line is limited to Brides Glen and St Stephen’s Green.

Notably, Luas tickets are deemed valid for use on Dublin buses in areas and times where Luas services are not operational.

Irish Rail and DART services continue uninterrupted, as confirmed by a statement from the railways.

Gardaí presence remains heightened across the city, with the Garda Commissioner convening a press conference at 8 a.m. today.

In the aftermath of the violent incidents, several individuals were apprehended last night in connection with the attacks. The rioting, attributed to far-right groups protesting against immigrants, resulted in critical injuries to a five-year-old boy, a senior infant class student, and a woman in her 30s. Two other young children sustained minor injuries.

The assailant initiated the attack just before 2 p.m. near a school in Parnell Square East, prompting a swift response from the public. A Brazilian citizen, on his way to deliver food, intervened first by striking the assailant with his helmet, leading to the collective restraint of the attacker. The intervening citizen is currently receiving medical treatment.

Protests against the assault on children escalated into chaos, with around 200 individuals clashing with gardaí. Many wore face masks, and some bystanders reportedly supported the attackers. The crowd, brandishing tricolour flags and ‘Irish Lives Matter’ posters, engaged in destructive activities, including throwing fireworks and setting fires around 7 p.m. Dublin buses and garda vehicles bore the brunt of the attacks, with minors identified among the assailants.

Far-right rioters, expressing discontent with ongoing pro-Palestinian demonstrations and alleging biassed reporting by state media RTE, intensified their actions, linking immigrants to housing crises in the city.
