Dublin Emerges as Premier Workplace Destination; Ireland’s Charm Attracts Professionals..

Dublin: A comprehensive report conducted by The Stepstone Group, the parent company of IrishJobs, sheds light on Ireland’s struggle to maintain its appeal as a premier employment destination. Surveying over one and a half million professionals across 188 nations, the findings underscore housing issues as a primary deterrent for skilled workers considering Ireland as their career hub.

While the report notes a marginal slip in Ireland’s ranking, with Dublin descending from 32nd to 36th place, it emphasises that the country has managed to maintain its position compared to 2020. Despite this setback, Ireland’s exceptional quality of life remains a pivotal factor in attracting professionals, alongside considerations such as job quality, security, and safety.

European nations predominantly favour Ireland for employment opportunities, with Portugal, Hungary, Estonia, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, and the UK comprising the top ten countries selecting Ireland as their preferred work destination. Notably, countries outside Europe, including Pakistan, UAE, and Ghana, also express interest, with India contributing the largest contingent of professionals relocating to Ireland.

Among the top countries seeking opportunities in Ireland, the UK leads the pack, closely followed by Australia and the US. Dublin, in particular, emerges as a favoured choice for both expatriates and local talents alike.

However, the report underscores a critical concern: the housing crisis and associated challenges act as significant barriers, particularly for foreign professionals. Sam Dooley, the country director of Stepstone Group Ireland, highlights the urgent need for concerted efforts from employers, government entities, and representative bodies to address these pressing issues. Recommendations include proactive measures to alleviate housing constraints and streamline visa and work permit processes for incoming workers.

In light of these findings, stakeholders are urged to prioritise the provision of fundamental amenities, such as accommodation, to facilitate a seamless transition for those seeking employment opportunities in Ireland.

Published in collaboration with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and The Network, a global consortium of over 70 recruitment platforms, the report underscores the imperative for collective action to enhance Ireland’s appeal as a premier destination for global talent.
