Dublin theatre topped list of 50 best theatres in UK and Ireland

DUBLIN: The Stella, in Rathmines in Dublin, has been named the best theatre in Britain and Ireland by a travel and entertainment guide. The global magazine Time Out also picked the Stella as one of the world’s 20 most beautiful theatres earlier this year.

The Stella theatre was described as a “swish art deco details, outlandishly comfy seating (and beds), a destination cocktail bar, and the ever-friendly staff make this seriously seductive Dublin cinema our number one pick.”

It was opened in 1923 and was restored to its art-deco glory in 2017. The Stella has a maximum seating capacity of 216 with rows of deep leather armchairs and sofas.

There are five other Irish theatres on Time Out’s top 50 list: Queen’s Film Theatre in Belfast (11), Light House Cinema in Dublin (15), Irish Film Institute in Dublin (23), Strand Arts Centre in Belfast (32), and Phoenix Cinema in Dingle, Co Kerry (48).

With theatres reopening in Ireland and summer blockbusters ready to hit screens in the coming days, movie buffs are eager to see a good film in a beautiful setting.
