Dublin to Install 200 New EV Fast Chargers, Expanding Public Charging Infrastructure by 50%

Dublin: Dublin’s four local authorities are set to roll out 200 new electric vehicle (EV) fast chargers, boosting the city’s public charging infrastructure by 50%. These chargers, capable of delivering a significant charge in just 20 minutes, will be located at public facilities such as libraries, parks, and sports centres starting early next year. The initiative, part of Dublin’s EV Strategy, is aimed at supporting the projected growth in EV ownership, particularly for those without access to home charging.

The city is expected to need 8,000 charging points by 2030, with local authorities committing to supply more than half. This first phase of the rollout will include high-demand locations such as Howth Harbour, Tallaght Stadium, and Bushy Park, with further expansions planned over the coming years.

John O’Keeffe, CEO of ePower, emphasised that this marks a major step toward making EV driving more accessible in Dublin. Aoife O’Grady of Zero Emissions Vehicles Ireland hopes the expanded infrastructure will encourage more people to switch to EVs, despite recent declines in EV sales.

The first chargers will offer both contactless and app-based payment options, with specific locations to be listed on local authority websites and platforms like the ePower app.
