Dublin: Revenue officers have seized cannabis with an estimated street value of €30.8 million at Dublin Airport. The seizure was made on Saturday after a detector dog alerted officers to suspicious consignments described as kitchen hoods.
A total of 154 kilograms of herbal cannabis, vacuum-packed and concealed within the boxes, was discovered during the operation. Revenue confirmed that the shipment originated in the United States and was destined for an address in Dublin. An investigation is now under way, and Revenue has urged anyone with information relevant to the case to come forward.
The seizure follows another significant drugs operation last week under Operation Tara. A joint operation involving the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, the Garda Dog Unit, and the Dublin Metropolitan Region East led to the recovery of €7.28 million worth of cocaine.
In that operation, 104 kilograms of cocaine were seized during searches in Gorey, Co Wexford, and Shankill, Dublin, on Monday. Gardaí also recovered €47,000 in cash and a number of digital devices. Four people were arrested and remain in custody. The seized substances have been forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.
