Eamon Ryan Asserts Dublin’s MetroLink Rail Line on Course for Early 2030s Operation

Dublin’s MetroLink rail project is set to be operational in the early 2030s, according to Eamon Ryan, the Minister for Transport. Ryan expressed confidence in the advanced planning process, asserting that the construction would proceed “quicker than people think.” The MetroLink, with an estimated cost of €9.5 billion, will feature a segregated railway, primarily underground, connecting north of Swords to Charlemont in the south of Dublin city centre. Serving residential areas such as Swords, Ballymun, and Glasnevin, as well as the city centre and Dublin Airport, the project comprises 16 stations. Ryan emphasised that the planning stage was well-advanced, with comprehensive documents submitted to An Bord Pleanala. Despite the proposed reforms in planning laws, Ryan underscored the importance of respecting the independence of the planning system. Anticipating the completion in the early next decade, he highlighted the need for the Planning Bill, currently before the Dáil, to address operational problems and streamline the planning process.
