Dublin: Elon Musk, the head of X (formerly Twitter), has predicted that the future of transportation will be dominated by electric autonomous vehicles (EVs). Musk’s statement aligns with the findings of a recent Global EV Survey, which underscores the growing popularity of electric vehicles worldwide.
The survey reveals that 92% of EV owners would choose another electric vehicle for their next purchase, highlighting a strong loyalty to the technology. Interestingly, the report suggests that the remaining 1% of electric vehicles currently in use could transition back to gasoline-powered engines, but this remains an exception rather than the norm.
One of the most compelling reasons cited for the widespread adoption of EVs is their low operating costs. According to the survey, 97% of respondents expressed satisfaction with the driving experience of electric vehicles, showcasing the high levels of approval among users.
The Global EV Survey was conducted across 18 countries, including Austria, Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. A total of 23,254 individuals participated in the study, providing valuable insights into global attitudes toward EVs.
Experts emphasise that the growth of the electric vehicle market is a critical component in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from road transport. To achieve this objective, however, it is essential to ensure that EVs become an affordable and accessible option for all.
