Euro Surges Against Indian Rupee..

Dublin: Indians across Europe are closely monitoring the sharp rise in the euro’s exchange rate, which has reached ₹95.13 per euro. While some analysts predict that the euro could soon cross the ₹100 threshold, others argue that it may not climb that high. The fluctuations in the U.S. financial markets are expected to play a crucial role in determining the euro’s trajectory in the coming weeks.

Euro Expected to Continue Rising

Economic forecasts suggest that the euro will appreciate significantly within a short period. Within the next seven days, the exchange rate is expected to rise by 1.41%, reaching ₹96.56. Over the next month, experts estimate a 5.94% increase, pushing the euro beyond ₹100.87. At the same time, both the U.S. dollar and the Indian rupee have weakened against the euro.

However, opinions remain divided. While some analysts believe that the euro will continue its bullish run, others predict a potential correction in the coming months.

Factors Driving the Euro’s Strength

Several key developments have contributed to the euro’s recent surge:

  1. German Defense Agreement & Eurozone Optimism—The German government’s new defense agreements and economic stimulus measures have boosted investor confidence in the Eurozone economy. Increased investments in defence and infrastructure have strengthened the euro’s outlook.
  2. U.S. Dollar Weakness & Market Uncertainty— The U.S. dollar has hit its lowest level since last November, prompting investors to shift to stronger alternative currencies such as the euro. Uncertainty over U.S. trade policies and tariff increases, particularly Trump’s decision to double tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminium, has fuelled recession fears. This economic uncertainty has led to global stock sell-offs, further weakening the dollar and making the euro more attractive to investors.
  3. Indian Rupee Under Pressure— The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recently saw a leadership change, sparking speculation about potential shifts in monetary policy. Concerns over India’s economic slowdown and possible interest rate cuts to stimulate growth have weakened the rupee. The EUR/INR exchange rate has fluctuated significantly, moving from an average of ₹91.75 to a recent high of ₹96.25 and a low of ₹89.97 in the past 30 days.

Long-Term Projections for the Euro

Analysts predict that the EUR/INR exchange rate will range between ₹95.32 and ₹116.23 this year, with an average exchange rate of ₹107.44. Investment models suggest a 22.07% return over the year.

Looking further ahead, the euro could rise by 51.40% over the next five years, with projections indicating that the exchange rate may reach ₹144.16 per euro.

Impact of U.S. Economic Indicators

  • Federal Reserve & European Central Bank (ECB) Policy
    • The European Central Bank (ECB) recently cut interest rates to 25%, signalling a cautious approach to further reductions.
    • Meanwhile, expectations of additional Federal Reserve rate cuts due to recession concerns in the U.S. have contributed to dollar depreciation, benefiting the euro.
  • U.S. Employment & Economic Slowdown
    • The U.S. job market has also contributed to the weakening dollar.
    • The U.S. economy added only 151,000 jobs in February, falling short of expectations and causing unemployment to rise to 4.1%.
    • This slowdown in job growth has placed additional pressure on the U.S. dollar, further strengthening the euro’s position.
