European countries are uniting to develop a unified policy to moderate refugee flows

BRUSSELS – European Union member states are banding together to crack down on illegal immigration and impose restrictions, fearing a refugee influx that could lead to extinction.

Reforms such as more controls on Europe’s external borders and refugee-burden-sharing are set to be implemented. European Union member states will be able to band together to limit illegal immigration into Europe and impose restrictions.

Yesterday, EU Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson welcomed the reform proposals. She spoke following a meeting of European interior ministers.

During the meeting, French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin stated his support for the reform proposals. He said that these reforms should be implemented in a phased manner.

Schengen Council
The European Union has backed French President Emmanuel Macron’s proposal to establish a Schengen Council to manage refugee and migration policies in the Schengen area.

Macron stated that the council would monitor how countries deal with border issues and make critical decisions in times of crisis. Macron stated that by controlling the borders, the council could become a strong and secure face of Europe.

With the EU countries agreeing to this proposal, the first meeting of the Council will be held on March 3 in Brussels.

The proceedings are step by step.

A statement issued after the meeting stated that the EU’s measures to dismantle refugee policies will be implemented step by step. According to the statement, a proposal was made during the meeting that these could only be implemented in phases due to their complexity, and this was accepted by the nations. The first step will be taken in the coming weeks.

Accepting refugees into Europe has been strongly opposed by the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia. Following this, a large number of refugees arrived in countries such as Italy, Greece, Malta, and Spain. It was in this context that the EU countries decided to develop a unified refugee policy. France proposed at the meeting that countries that are not ready to accept refugees should financially assist countries that are.
