Facebook blocks Australians from viewing and sharing news on the platform

Australian users can no longer view or share Australian or international news on Facebook.

The social networking site has announced that it has blocked Australians from viewing and sharing news on Facebook. The company took such a decision because the Australian Parliament is considering legislation that would force Facebook to pay for journalism.

However, Australians can continue to publish news content on the platform, but the links and posts cannot be viewed or shared by Australian users.

The company also stated that international users outside Australia are also unable to share Australian news.

The digital giants’ decision comes shortly after Australian treasurer Josh Frydenberg said Facebook and Google were in “very promising” talks with Australian media companies.

Google and Facebook have condemned the country’s proposed laws as unworkable. Google has also threatened to remove its search engine from the country.
