Valletta: Five EU countries, including Malta, have called for a ban on migrants entering Europe. This is a demand made by Spain, Greece, Italy, Malta, and Cyprus. According to these countries, the majority of migrants arrive at their southern and southeastern borders. The home affairs ministers of these countries also asked the European Union to develop a clear migrant relocation policy so that the burden of migrants does not fall more heavily on the southern EU countries.
The ministers requested harsh punishment for human trafficking groups that carry people in perilous boats. They also demanded that Frontex, the border agency of the European Union, work more actively in this regard.

They also discussed the establishment of asylum application centers in neighboring countries. This will allow individuals to safely go to Europe.
Byron Camilleri, Minister of Home Affairs, stated that the demand had been made multiple times in comments. Nonetheless, no action was taken. Meanwhile, countless lives, especially those of women and children, are being lost. Camilleri urged all European countries to recognize that stopping human trafficking is the only way to put an end to such tragedies.
Frontex should be given more resources…
Notis Mitarachi, Greece’s Minister of Migration and Asylum, stated that Frontex needed more resources. In this regard, Mitarachi requested that the surveillance be strengthened. Mitarachi’s response came after a shipwreck on the Greek islands of Lesbos and Kythira killed 23 people.
The Greek minister urged the EU to request that Turkey secure its borders and take tough measures against migrant trafficking.
Frontex, according to Spain’s Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska Gómez, should collaborate with third nations to prevent boats from leaving carrying migrants. According to Cyprus’s Interior Minister, Nicos Nouris, the surge in migrant arrivals is a major hardship.
