DUBLIN: Garda stopped two drivers who were driving along the motorway at a speed of 175km/h. Garda also found that one of the drivers had used drugs.
It was yesterday evening, Garda in Louth intercepted two cars speeding on the M1 northbound. The maximum speed limit here is 120km/h, which means both cars raced 55km/h above the speed limit.
The drivers were caught by the Road Policing Unit at Drogheda Garda station and charged with dangerous driving.
During a test to find out whether the drivers used drugs, one of the drivers tested positive for for cocaine, cannabis and opioids.
The 20-year-old was arrested and will appear in Dundalk District Court on November 11, the Garda Press Office said.
