DUBLIN: The first of the €600 in electricity credits announced by the government to deal with rising energy prices will be available on bills as of yesterday. From November to December, a €200 credit will be available on bills. Three credits of 200 euros each are allowed.
This benefit will be available to more than 2.2 million domestic consumers in the country. The credit will be given in the bills from November to December as per the electricity supplier and billing method. No separate application is required as it will be automatically credited to the account. The second payment will be received in January-February, and the third payment will be received in March-April.
According to analysis by the Commission for Regulation of Utilities, this assistance provided by the government has reduced the number of bill arrears. In April and May of this year, the government provided electricity credits.
The government’s energy credit package of €600 is estimated to be equivalent to 25% of a typical household’s annual bill.
Minister Eamon Ryan stated that this credit scheme will help the elderly, low-income earners, young families, and renters in their daily lives. Earlier this year, a €2.4 billion aid package was implemented. The government has also included a 2.5 billion euro one-time package in the budget. The minister stated that the government hopes that the landlord’s credits will be distributed to deserving tenants.
