G20 Summit 2023: World leaders gather at Bharat Mandapam

New Delhi, India: The two-day G20 Summit, which will highlight India on the global stage, began today in Delhi.

The summit hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is attended by around 40 dignitaries, including heads of G20 countries and invited countries, and representatives of international organisations.

Based on the summit’s message of Vasudhaiva Kudumbakam, the discussion on various topics will be held in three sessions, one earth, one family, and one future. All three will be presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Meanwhile, bilateral meetings of the leaders will also be held. Today’s first session is titled One Earth and begins at 9 a.m. The second session of One Family begins in the afternoon.

World leaders will visit Rajghat, Gandhi’s mausoleum, on the concluding day tomorrow morning. Following that, saplings will be planted in Bharat Mandapam.

The summit will conclude with a future session. The G20 presidency will be handed over to Brazil at the closing session. With India’s term expiring on November 30, Brazil will assume the position on December 1.

At 8 p.m., President Draupadi Murmu will host a dinner for world leaders, chief ministers, and former prime ministers. 400 guests are invited.

Africa will now be included in the G20 group of countries. The G20 will now become the G21 when representatives of the 55-member African Union join. The outcomes of India’s efforts to grant the African Union permanent membership in the G20 have been noted. The African Union Chairperson and Comoros President Azali Assoumani have also attended the meeting.

The meeting is attended by US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Oman Prime Minister Haitham Bin Tariq Al Said, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, and other world leaders.

Global economy, climate change, food security, sustainable agriculture, innovation, digitalization, health and well-being, counter-terrorism, and security.
