Galway County PPN to organize a political awareness program for migrants living in Ireland

GALWAY: The Galway County PPN (Public Participation Network) is organising a Migrant Political Participation Training programme in association with the Immigrant Council of Ireland.

The event which is targeted at migrants living in Ireland who are interested in engaging in Irish politics and participating in elections, will be led by Teresa Buczkowska, Integration Manager. Teresa Buczkowska migrated from Poland to Ireland in 2005 and is currently the Integration Manager at the Immigrant Council of Ireland.

The event will take place online on Monday 15 March 2021 from 7 pm to 8 pm (Irish time). Tuesday 16 March 2021 from 00:30 am to 01:30 am (Indian time).

The prime focus of this training is to increase the awareness of the Irish political system at local, national and EU level. It also helps migrants and naturalised citizens to understand their voting rights.

Training provides knowledge of the different political systems in Ireland and how to make the best of the voting rights. It is also useful to services or civic society groups working to engage with migrants in the political process.

The event will focus on topics such as election types and voting rights, Local Government, councillors, the Irish electoral system, co-opting and the National Government.
