Garda Suspended Following Death of Man in City Centre Incident

Dublin: A Garda has been suspended following the death of a 51-year-old man in Dublin city centre. The incident occurred at approximately 4:15 a.m. last Friday near the Holiday Inn on O’Connell Street, where the man sustained serious injuries during an intervention involving Gardaí. He later died in hospital earlier this week.

The suspension was confirmed after the Police Ombudsman’s Office (Fiosrú) launched an independent criminal investigation into the actions of the Garda member alleged to have pushed the victim. A Garda spokesperson stated that the officer, based in the Dublin region, has been suspended pending the outcome of the inquiry.

Fiosrú has appealed for witnesses and urged anyone with mobile phone or dashcam footage of the incident to come forward. Information can be provided via the dedicated number: 0818 600 800.

The Garda spokesperson added that investigators are in contact with the deceased’s family, and a family liaison officer has been appointed to provide support throughout the inquiry.
