Garda takes action against crowd in a Dublin mosque for violating COVID regulations

DUBLIN: Garda launched an investigation into an incident in which people gathered at a Dublin mosque in breach of the COVID regulations.

About 150 people gathered for prayers at Blackpitts Mosque in the City Center yesterday afternoon.

A video showing a large number of people coming out through the back gate of the church was uploaded on social media by a neighbour. As it went viral, the gardai who arrived at the scene around 1 pm dispersed the crowd.

Neighbours reported the incident to the Kevin Street Garda Station following a large gathering.

According to the current Level 5 guidelines, all religious services must be conducted online. Worship centres should be open only for private prayers. During this time, more than 150 people gathered in the mosque for about 20-25 minutes.

Neighbours are demanding that such violations be taken seriously, as those who attended the funeral were fined. Gardai, who confirmed the violation, said the proceedings were ongoing.
